Banks play an effective role in developing the surrounding communities on the social, scientific and environmental levels. Banks deeply believe in the importance of providing financial support for the deprived as well as the social solidarity concept, therefore, banks contributes by providing donations to entities that support these groups.
The FEB has put some standards and rules that regulate its activity in this regard, under which, the banks have funded several projects as follows:
- Purchased advanced medical devices as well as some high-cost medicines for poor patients in several public and university hospitals.
- Supported the health and social care for the Ministry of Education’s employees in appreciation of their role
- Provided a donation to the Central Social Solidarity Fund affiliated to the General Administration of Student Affairs at the Ministry of Higher Education
- Allocated funds to build 23 schools to meet the national appeal against the effect of the earthquake. In addition to their contributions to alleviate other impacts of the earthquake
- Contributed to the Mubarak Public Library Project that was under the auspices of Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak. The FEB took this initiative for its importance and the positive impact of the project. The FEB received appreciation letters from Mrs. Suzan Mubarak and the Minister of Economy for this contribution
- Funded the MA degree in business administration joint program between the University of Cairo and the University of Georgia in the USA. The program was under the auspices of the Fulbright Association and the FEB donated USD180 thousand for the first phase of the program
- Donated personal computers to the 21st Century Children’s Club as a participation in the social development programs sponsored by non-profit NGOs; which aimed at developing technology in Egypt
- Contributed in the national campaign entitled the “General Social Development of Deprived Areas" adopted by Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, which aimed at improving deprived areas at all levels; including environment, health, education and culture as well as training the inhabitants on professions that can help them overcome their tough life conditions
In the framework of FEB’s major role in serving the national economy and the society, FEB has exerted efforts in different fields as follows:
Supported the national project of establishing the Grand Museum under the auspices of Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak
The Federation has participated in the national project of establishing the Egyptian Grand Museum for its importance to preserve our unique cultural heritage. The FEB sponsored the launch event of the fund-raising campaign held in Mohamed Ali Palace on 6 June 2006 under the auspices of the First Lady. The Federation also participated in the work group formed to promote the campaign by visiting the chairpersons of banks and presenting details on the project.
Studying Donation Requests
The Federation studies donation requests received and prioritizes them according to the regulations set by the Board and the Executive Committee. The Federation approves requests that serve a wide segment of the society and addresses the FEB members to support such requests.
Contribution to Alleviate the Impact of the Dowaiqa Crisis
The Board has proactively urged banks to work on easing the bad impact of Dowaiqa rockslide incident and help the victims overcome it. The banks have immediately responded by helping the afflicted people in coordination with the Central Bank of Egypt and official entities.
Contribution to Alleviating the Impact of Terrorist Attacks on the Tourism Sector
The Board has stressed on the importance of giving full support to the tourism sector and urged the FEB members to deal with companies operating in this sector with flexibility till they overcome the crisis. This includes reviewing the interest rate on their debts, granting grace periods and rescheduling debts or any other solution tailored to suit each situation. The FEB also called for supporting the FEB National Crisis Fund, which was established to face the negative incidents and to offer compensation for the people afflicted.
Handling Complaints Submitted by Entities or Clients against FEB Members
The FEB works on solving disputes that may occur between banks and other entities or clients in different aspects. Therefore, the FEB studies submitted complaints and refer them to the specialized departments at the banks and follow-up on complaints until each is solved.
Launching the First National Awareness Campaign Highlighting the Important Role of the Banking Sector in Serving the Society
The FEB launched the first national awareness campaign on the importance of the banks’ role in providing different financial and banking services to individuals and entities in a way that reinforce the national economy, contribute to the GDP growth and improve economic indicators.
In conclusion, FEB continues its efforts to remain a core element in developing the society.
